Type
of work: metalwork
I have a great love of improvisation regarding techniques, processes and tools. After working for years as a production jeweler, I translated
my knowledge of metal into sculpture and architectural metalwork. The Stars are jewelry-quality decorative pieces. The Fish are small sculptures inspired by contemporary West African sculpture techniques.
Most recently, I have been obsessed with the luminous color and abstract layered imagery which I have developed using gelatin plate printmaking. Making monoprints has provided me with a freedom of improvisation on the level of stream of consciousness writing or jazz. I teach printmaking workshops locally.
Description of
work
The Stars are either a holiday decoration or a year round decorative hanging. They are jewelry level metalwork using brass, copper and silver.
The Fish are small sculptures made using a contemporary West African technique of working thin metal over a carved pine body. Aluminum, copper and various tacks and nails are used in their construction. They can hang from monofilament, making them appear to swim in air currents, or sit on a surface using one of their fins for balance.
The framed prints are one-of-a-kind Monoprints made using Gelatin Plate Printmaking techniques. Luminous layer are formed by touching found objects and plant material to
the inked plate.
Price Range:
Stars $40 - $60
